Richmond Second Amendment Rally Peaceful and Succesful

This last Monday, Lamb’s Reign editors Jason Garwood, Jordan Wilson, and I attended the 2020 Second Amendment lobby day in Richmond, Virginia. Estimates from capitol officials are around 22,000 attendees, while other independent estimates are ranging from 50,000 to 80,000.

This event, in large part organized by the Virginia Citizens Defence League, is a yearly event. Still, due to the radical firearm regulations that Democrat Governor Northam has been in vocal support of, this year was special.

In an act of rabid sensationalism, Northam placed Virginia in an official “State of Emergency.” The justification for this executive overreach was pure fearmongering and hype. Northam and his liberal media allies claimed that this Second Amendment Rally would be full of violent white supremacists, Nazis, and insurrectionists. However, despite these claims, the day was entirely peaceful without one violent incident. Thousands of loaded AR-15s, AK-47s, shotguns, and handguns were openly carried by thousands of men and women, and magically, these firearms did not decide on their own to commit any violence. Further, this was not a homogenous event. Hundreds and hundreds of ethnic minorities were also standing up for their right to protect themselves and to protect liberty. As some have said, this was the worst “white supremacist” rally ever, and that’s a good thing.

In the aftermath of the rally, Governor Northam has taken credit for the peaceful nature of the event. He takes this credit while no arrests were made at the event due to any violence. Though there was a strong law enforcement presence at the rally, I have personally witnessed far more conflict and violence at prolife events. I imagine that Monday at the Virginia State capital might have been one of the safest places in our nation.

Virginia showed up. So did the Carolinas, Michigan, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and several other states. The state, and the country, received a clear message.

As to be expected, there was a large degree of public support for President Trump. Trump has recently tweeted his support for gun rights, but he’s also on record for his support of red flag laws and has actively signed into legislation gun control measures. It is a sad fact of public politics that far too many people think on a binary level when it comes to these issues. Because they see a Democrat presidential candidate to the left of Trump on gun control, Trump automatically becomes the de facto hero. Despite the success of the day, it would be good for Americans to break out of the defunct two-party mindset and see the compromises of Conservative politicians as part of the problem as opposed to only “better than the next guy.”

Lastly, it is vital for Virginians and all people to fully understand that the right to protect their life, liberty, and property does not come from the Constitution, the Congress, the Supreme Court, the State, or the Governor. It comes from God. Although it is good to be actively and politically opposed to state and national gun control measures, ultimately, we are not bound to comply with unjust laws no matter the legislative outcome. Over a hundred Virginian cities and counties have declared themselves as Sanctuary Counties for the sake of fundamental Second Amendment rights. Now is the time for Virginians to remember that although we will certainly put pressure on Richmond, it should not matter what Richmond decides to do. The Democrats still have the votes, so we need to be ready to assert these sanctuary statuses. But do not forget, believers, that our rights also do not come from the counties. Our appeal is to heaven.
